Carpal Tunnel SyndromeCTS is a painful condition of the hand and fingers which can move up the arm as high as the shoulder, caused by compression of a major nerve where it passes over the carpal bones through a passage at the front of the wrist, alongside the flexor tendons of the hand. It may be caused by repetitive movements over a long period, or by fluid retention, and is characterized by sensations of tingling, numbness, or burning. At times the pain can be so intense that it wakes you in the night. Computer mouse activity, playing musical instruments, or any repetitive movement of the fingers, wrist and neck are the leading cause of the syndrome.
Our Chiropractic ApproachInterestingly, CTS can begin in the at the spine from pressure being exerted on the nerves between the wrist/arm and the neck. With a chiropractic approach of adjustments, we have seen positive results. The goal is to relieve spinal strain allowing for the alleviation of Carpal Tunnel symptoms. Taking this approach keeps the medical approach at bay. Their first inclination is to immobilize, apply a program of ice, prescribe drugs. If the condition does not improve, the next step may be steroids treatment and/or surgery that take years to fully recover from. Not all CTS may be cured or fixed by chiropractic, but we think you should make it your first choice to have adjustments and allowing the condition to heal naturally without the complications of steroids and even surgery. Your visit for adjustment and dealing with possible vertebral subluxations could be the difference between getting free of pain and otherwise invasive treatment.
