Many years ago, before I went to a chiropractor as a patient, I heard someone say that, “once you go to a chiropractor, you have to go forever.” I remember thinking that all I wanted to do was to get rid of my back pain… I wasn’t interested in a lifetime commitment.
What I learned changed my life. I found out what should have been obvious: go for as long as you want. Period.
I didn't have to go forever. My spine didn’t become weaker or dependent on adjustments. My ligaments didn’t loosen (just the opposite actually) and my muscles didn’t weaken. Once I felt what it was like to live my life in proper alignment, free of subluxation, I just wanted that more.
It’s like brushing my teeth or eating healthy - I like what I feel like when I do both regularly; and even if I don't HAVE to brush my teeth and eat healthy forever, of course I still will. Same with my adjustments. But my motivation is NOT a fear of reverting back to pain-filled days. Not at all.
I simply LOVE what my life is like because of what I can DO when my chiropractor adjusts my subluxations. Subluxations are caused by stress. They are misalignments in your nerve system and spine that rob you of your ability to ADAPT to STRESS.
Did you read that? If you are always feeling STRESSED, then your body is giving out on the inside! Not OK! When I get adjusted regularly, I can DO MORE. Period.
And I LOVE doing more. I love spending time with my family, I love spending time with my dog and taking him on long adventure walks, going to the gym, playing sports, traveling to new places, attending concerts and sporting events, learning more about chiropractic and health, hanging out with friends, and serving patients in our office. I love it all.
For me, I simply couldn’t do all of that without being adjusted regularly. My body wouldn’t last. I wouldn’t be able to handle the stress. I wouldn’t be as happy.
A chiropractic mentor of mine once did a feedback survey for all of his patients over the past decade at his office - thousands of patients, asking them what their biggest change was since getting regular chiropractic care. You may be surprised to hear what the top 3 things that the patients reported as changed while under chiropractic care.
Remember, this is thousands and thousands of feedback forms from patients.
The top three changes were:
Handle stress better
More energy
Get sick less often
You may be surprised to learn that number 4 was ‘more positive attitude’ and number 5 was ‘less pain/discomfort.’ Can you imagine if they sold a drug that gave you more energy, helped you get sick less often or handled stress better? That would be the best selling drug on the planet! But it doesn’t come from the outside in — it comes from the inside out.
Those changes are direct benefits of your body working better; as it does when you are subluxation free.
So, DO I HAVE TO get adjusted forever?
NOPE.
Do I WANT to?
You bet.
